His parents are named Robert Downey Sr. and Elsie Ford. Robert’s father was a filmmaker and his mother Elsie was an actress. In fact, it was Elsie who taught Robert acting and increased his interest in acting.
At just 5 years old, he made his first film, titled Pound which was made by his father. Even after that, he has done small roles in many of his father’s films.
Robert’s father used to be a drug addict and used to take a lot of drugs. He allowed his son Robert to consume drugs at just 6 years old, which are very harmful for his health. Robert was a child at that time, did not understand about drugs and started taking drugs like his father.
By the time he was 8 years old, he was addicted to drugs. Robert’s childhood went through many difficulties, because his parents were divorced.
After this, he started living with his father in Los Angeles, where Robert also used to take drugs. When he was 16, he left his studies midway and moved back to New York to be with his mother.
He again moved towards films and from 1983 – 1990 he worked in many films, due to which he was now coming in the public eye. But even at this time, his addiction to drugs did not stop. In 1990, Robert tried several times to get rid of the drug, but each time he felt disappointed. But at the same time his career in Hollywood continued.
He had now made an image of a great actor in the eyes of the media and in the meantime, some of his movies were quite a hit, such as Soapdish and Short Cuts. There was a time in his career when he was nominated for the Oscar Award in 1992 for acting in the movie Chaplin. Everyone was very happy because of Robert’s acting.
This 28-year-old young man was gifted acting by god. But, it wrong to say this because he had struggled a lot in his life. While on the one hand he was praised for his acting, on the other hand he was also condemned for his involvement in drug addiction and controversies.
In 1992 he married a girl named Deborah Falconer and stayed away from controversies for about three-four years. Where his life was about to come on track, then there was another problem in his life. He was caught in connection with drugs and sentenced to 1 year in jail. He spent 1 year in jail where other prisoners used to beat him a lot, this was Robert’s most difficult time.
