His mother’s name was Mary Lee Pfeiffer, a teacher and father’s name was Thomas Mapother III, an electrical engineer. Tom spent his childhood in great difficulties.
He had a disease called Dyslexia in his childhood, which made him very difficult to remember and speak things. Also, Tom’s father did not treat him well. Often they beat him up with small things. Later in 1971, his father changed jobs and due to this his entire family had to go to Ottawa (Capital of Canada).
In this way, Tom spent a few years of his childhood in Canada, where he took admission in Robert Hopkins Public School. And it was from this that he got interested in acting and because of this interest he made a play in his school when he was in 4th class.
Tom was also very fond of sports at school time and used to play hockey on behalf of the school team, but when Tom was only in the sixth class, his mother decided to divorce from his father. After that, he went to shifted United States with Tom and his sister.
He later played as a linebacker in American football for his college team. But once he was caught drinking beer before the game and showed him the way out of the team and after going through a lot of similar struggles, he wanted to try his hand in acting.
For which he also gave a lot of auditions around 1980 but unfortunately he got disappointed there too. However, in 1981, he got a small role in a movie called Endless Love and in his small role, he made the impression that he got to work in another movie Taps in the same year.
But a movie called Risky Business, released in 1983, brought Tom’s true identity to the public. This romantic comedy film was very successful and this movie can also be called the turning point of Tom’s life. Then in 1986, Top Gun made Tom stand out as a superstar, his film proved to be the biggest hit of the year.
This was followed by The Color of Money movie and also dominated the box office. Tom married Mimi Rogers in 1987, although his film career was going well at this time but he had a lot of problems due to family disputes.
Due to which he got divorced within only 3 years, later he got a good chemistry with co-star Nicole Kidman during the shooting of Days of Thunder movie, then he got married later. Meanwhile, the 1988 film Rain Man received the Academy Award for Best Film Award. Tom received the Kansas City Film Critics Circle Award for his supporting role.
He received his first Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for his 1989 film Born on the Fourth of July, as well as being nominated for the Academy Award as actor from the same film.
